Client Requirements
Acacia Mining, a TSX-listed gold miner operating multiple assets in Tanzania, was considering early-stage development works for a new greenfields asset in neighbouring Kenya.
Project Solutions and Approach
MineScope was retained to formulate the initial project development strategy for a deposit located in an environment with high local farming activities and challenging physical relief, in a region with limited mining experience. The initial development activity focused on preparing a Scoping Study for a high-grade underground mining operation adopting a bespoke processing flowsheet, paste backfill and co-disposal of residual filtered tailings and mine waste. The study was successfully completed using in-house MineScope experts supported by key associates with specialized skillsets.
Outcomes and Achievements
The Scoping Study identified a viable technical solution that allowed optimisation of the mining asset but also developed a number of key strategies to allow the project owner to work with local, regional and national government, communities and NGOs to identify a collaborative development pathway for the asset. Whilst this asset has since gone through a Change-of-Control, most of these concepts have been adopted and implemented successfully by the new owners.
